General
Where is Wallan Accounting & Bookkeeping located?
We’re based in Wallan, Victoria (3756) and look after clients throughout the Mitchell Shire and surrounding region — including Kilmore, Beveridge, Wandong, Broadford, Seymour, Whittlesea, Mernda, Craigieburn and the Macedon Ranges. With cloud accounting we can also help clients anywhere in Australia.
How much does a basic tax return cost?
Basic individual tax returns start from $120. More complex returns (rental properties, capital gains, business income) cost a little more depending on the work involved. We always confirm the fee before we begin, and your tax agent fee is generally tax deductible.
Do you offer a free consultation?
Yes — we offer a free, no-obligation consultation so you can see how we can help before committing to anything. Call Shannon on 0430 339 398 to book.
Are you a registered tax and BAS agent?
Yes. We provide tax and BAS services in line with ATO and Tax Practitioners Board requirements, so your lodgements are handled correctly and you receive the agent lodgement extensions you’re entitled to.
Can you help if I’ve fallen behind on tax or BAS?
Absolutely. Catch-up tax returns, BAS and bookkeeping are some of the most common things we help with. We’ll get you up to date and deal with the ATO on your behalf.
Do I have to come into an office?
No. We work with many clients entirely online using cloud accounting, email and phone. If you prefer to meet in person locally around Wallan, that can be arranged too.
Which accounting software do you support?
We work with Xero, MYOB and QuickBooks. We can recommend the best option for your business, set it up and train your team.
How do I get started?

About our services
How much does a tax return cost?
Basic individual tax returns start from $120. The final fee depends on the complexity of your return — for example, rental properties or capital gains add some work. We’ll always confirm the price before we start, and your tax agent fee is generally deductible the following year.
Do you handle company and trust tax returns?
Yes. We prepare returns for all business structures — sole traders, partnerships, companies and trusts — including the related financial statements and distribution minutes where required.
When is my BAS due?
Quarterly BAS is generally due on the 28th of the month after the quarter ends (with extensions when lodged through a BAS/tax agent like us). Monthly BAS is due on the 21st. We track your deadlines and lodge for you so you never miss one.
How often should my bookkeeping be done?
It depends on your business, but most small businesses benefit from weekly or fortnightly bookkeeping so reconciliations stay current and your BAS is always ready. We’ll recommend a rhythm that suits your size and budget.
What is Single Touch Payroll (STP)?
STP requires employers to report wages, tax and super to the ATO each time they run payroll. We set this up and report it for you, including the STP Phase 2 requirements.
Why do I need financial statements?
They’re required for your tax return, but they’re also the clearest picture of your business’s health — essential when applying for finance, planning growth or selling the business.
I’m starting a business — can you help me set it up the right way?
Definitely. We help you choose the right structure, register for the necessary tax obligations and set up systems so you start on solid foundations. See our business setup and ABN registration service.
Which accounting software is best for my business?
It depends on your needs. Xero is hugely popular for small businesses, MYOB suits many established businesses, and QuickBooks is a strong all-rounder. We’ll recommend the best fit and set it up for you.
How do I get an ABN?
We can register your ABN for you, usually on the same day, along with any other registrations you need such as GST, a business name and PAYG withholding.
